European initiatives
The European Union provides a shared living and economic space for its over 500 million citizens in 28 member states. Many funding programmes have been established to fulfil the objectives of different policy areas. In this way, the majority of the EU’s budget flows to its citizens. They benefit from investment in structural development, agriculture and environment as well as from thousands of research, education, cultural and economic projects.
The EU Office in the Mayor’s office of the City of Chemnitz coordinates and supports transnational EU projects conducted by the City and by Chemnitz associations and institutions. It advises on European Union funding opportunities, provides a partner finding service to organisations and is actively involved in public relations work on European issues. The City of Chemnitz is also active in the EUROCITIES European city network.
