Stefan-Heym-Forum mit der Stefan-und-Inge-Heym-Arbeitsbibliothek
Stefan Heym Forum with the Stefan and Inge Heym Working Library
In the DAStietz cultural centre, the Stefan Heym Forum was created as part of the Chemnitz City Library on an area of around 240 square metres through extensive renovations. In addition to the exhibition, which is open to the public, there is also a modern event and training area with seating for around 30 people. Academic work on Heym's work is a central component of the forum with the aim of developing a centre for Heym research in close cooperation with the TU Chemnitz - Chair of Modern German and Comparative Literature.
The Stefan Heym Forum Chemnitz, which opened on 16 October 2020, offers a wealth of information about the life and work of Stefan Heym, his relationship with his native city of Chemnitz and the support he received from his wife Inge in the literary creative process, in words and pictures, with archive recordings and current interviews with contemporary witnesses. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the working library from Stefan Heym's study in Berlin-Grünau, which has been collected over decades and is presented in its original furniture. It comprises several thousand volumes, including research literature for novel projects, editions of his works from all over the world and dedication copies from prominent fellow writers and companions.
