Schauplatz Eisenbahn Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf
Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf railway station
Schauplatz Eisenbahn is the largest and one of the most important railway museums in Germany. Living railway history can be experienced at the authentic location, in the historic building ensemble of the marshalling yard and the railway depot in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf. The impressive fleet of vehicles includes steam, diesel and electric locomotives from various series, historic passenger and freight carriages as well as unique and remarkable technical installations, such as the world's only cable winding system. You can also visit the driver's cab of locomotive 44 1338 and experience the railway from the perspective of a train driver. The "Schauplatz-Rallye" is a special learning and adventure programme for children and families.
From March to October, Thursday to Sunday, between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., the railway showplace invites you to visit. Every day, several exhibitions provide interesting facts about the railway. At weekends and during the holidays, our "Schauplatz-Express" commutes across our 26-hectare museum site. In addition, the AG Feldbahn invites you to take a ride on its circuit at weekends. And on the first Saturday of every month, the model railway group presents its H0 and 1-gauge layouts.
