The winner of the market fountain competition has been determined. It is the work of London-based German artist Daniel Widrig entitled "Manifold". This announced mayor Michael Stötzer today. "We had a huge range of designs. That was very pleasing, but made the decision difficult. "After two days of intensive consultation and discussion, the jury decision was "relatively unanimous" on the three placements. The chairwoman of the jury, Else Gabriel, Professor of Fine Art and Sculpture, has already informed the winner shortly after the decision.

The designs of the nine preselected artists will be shown publicly from May 25 to June 28, 2019 on a scale of 1:20 in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz.

In a public discussion, the citizens had the opportunity to discuss the drafts with the jury on 3 June.

Status of the procedure and dates

Deadline for the submission of the competition entries (Phase 1) was September 17, 2018 (completed).

There were 114 submissions. Most of them were from Germany, but also Slovenia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Czech Republic and the UK were represented.

On December 3 and 4, 2018 the meeting of the Judging panel took place. Out of a total of 114 submissions, nine were selected to qualify for the second round. The minutes of the panel can be found here.

In phase 2, nine selected designers were ordered to further qualify their designs. The date of issue was April 29, 2019 (completed). From May 25 to June 28, 2019, the selected fountain designs will be presented as a 1:20 scale model in a public exhibition in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz am Theaterplatz - in the Säulensaal. You are cordially invited to come by and get an idea of ​​yourself. Admission is free. On 3 June 2019, 18:00 clock, the jury invited all interested parties to a meeting in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. With this event, both the adjusting experts and representatives engaged in dialogue with the future users of the fountain.

On the next two days the meeting of the Judging panel took place. Out of a total of nine submissions three prizes were awarded. Our heartfelt congratulations to:

3rd prize: Dagmara Genda, Fountain n.n.
